Self Perception

Dealing With Adhd – A Lesson In Self Perception
Dealing with ADHD is not easy, after all many of those with the condition have had failures either at school, at home, or in the workplace. The statistics tell us that ADHD children underachieve academically eighty percent of the time, the divorce rate is higher in families where one or both parents have ADHD, and those with the condition tend to change jobs much more often than normal. With the secondary symptoms of worry, boredom, loss of motivation, frustration, low self esteem, sleep disturbances, and hopelessness it is easy to see how once the snowball of negative input get rolling down the steep hill of problematic secondary symptoms its size can grow out of proportion to reality.
But one of the keys to dealing with ADHD is to keep this snowball of negative symptoms from building by recognizing that both ADHD children and adults have a great many advantages. The key to dealing with ADHD is being able to minimize the ADHD personalities weaknesses and spotlight their strengths. As many great minds have attested over the centuries, external changes start from the inside. Before those with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder can shine the spotlight of positive results on their talents, their job, excelling in school, and improving overall physical health they will have to change the way they look at themselves. When a person of any age has a condition like ADHD they are immediately saddled with so many negatives that they tend to unravel from the inside out, not from the outside in. The key to dealing with ADHD is to change the way one perceives themselves.
But how can this happen? After all the deck is stacked against those with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder. The first step is looking for strengths. Let’s explore a few examples of this.
Hyperactivity: In dealing with ADHD many parents look at hyperactivity as the biggest negative of all. But what if that endless bottomless reservoir of energy one day will help them to work faster and longer than their competitors? Some of the most successful writers, inventors, artists, and business titans have been able to take their hyperactivity and point it in the direction of their passion resulting in great personal achievement.
Inattention: Inattention is the primary ADHD symptom. It can create a mountain of challenges in a structured school or workplace environment. What inattention really means as it applies to ADHD is these personalities can generally only focus on something they are genuinely interested in. In these cases they become hyper focused being able to block out financial, health, and marital problems to achieve their goal.
In summary, dealing with ADHD is all about recognizing potential and allowing this potential to develop in a positive way. One way many of those with attention deficit disorder have been able to do this is with the help of natural remedies for ADHD that work to smooth out the rough edges of inattention, distractibility, and hyperactivity/restlessness while still leaving the door open for success.
